Applied STEM Beyond Barriers
With the aim to empower & increase the representation of the children and youth population from underserved and low-income communities in the STEM field, Afro-Canadian Development initiated the STEM Project. We have been running this Project with some of the renowned Coding & Robotics service providers since January 2023. Our STEM Project for Children and Youth consists of enriched and interactive weekly sessions on Coding & Robotics for children and youth ages 6 – 13 years.
Over the past three years, the program has grown significantly in both reach and demand and has been supported by several respected corporate and foundation partners, including CIBC Foundation, TELUS Friendly Future Foundation, Honda Canada Foundation, Trottier Family Foundation, Rotary Club of Toronto and its Charitable Foundation, iA Financial Group, TD Bank, and KPMG Foundation.
Building on the program’s success and strong community demand, we are announcing a new cohort for 2026 under a new name: Applied STEM Beyond Barriers, funded by TELUS Friendly Future Foundation. This enhanced program introduces more advanced, applied learning opportunities such as 3D printing, LEGO robotics, laser engraving, pixel art and animation, digital sculpting, microcontrollers, and other emerging technologies – equipping young people with future-ready skills while continuing to remove financial and systemic barriers to access.
** All the sessions are free**
**Accredited certificates will be provided to all the participating children and youths upon completion of the sessions. **
REGISTRATION FOR FEBRUARY – JUNE 2026 IS CLOSED!
