Toronto, ON – December 13, 2025 – Afro Canadian Development Inc. (ACD) is proud to announce the successful completion of its July – December 2025 STEM Cohort in collaboration with Ultimate Coders, marking another major milestone in its mission to expand access to high-quality STEM education for children and youth from underserved communities.
Launched as a free STEM program, the July – December 2025 cohort supported 25 children and youth ages 6 – 15 years, equipping them with in-demand skills in coding and robotics through hands-on, project-based learning. On December 13, 2025, students received their certificates of completion, celebrating months of dedication, creativity, and growth.
Throughout the program, students developed strong foundations in computer science, learning essential coding concepts such as conditional statements, repetition and looping, event handling, variables, broadcasting, and keyboard input. As their skills advanced, participants explored Boolean logic, lists, data structures, threads, user interface design, and debugging techniques. By the end of the program, students were able to design and build interactive animations and games, demonstrating advanced logic, functions, arrays, and video sensing.
In addition to coding instruction, each participant received a free robotics kit to take home, empowering them to build and experiment independently. Many students successfully constructed their own Megabot robots, extending learning beyond the classroom and fostering curiosity, problem-solving, and confidence.
Since the program’s inception in 2023, Afro Canadian Development Inc. has provided STEM education to nearly 250 children and youth, creating pathways to digital literacy, innovation, and future career opportunities for communities that are often underrepresented in STEM fields.
“This program is about more than teaching code – it’s about unlocking potential, inspiring confidence, and showing young people that they belong in STEM,” said Emmanuel Animodi, Director of Afro Canadian Development Inc. “The growth we’ve seen in these students is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when opportunity meets support.”
Parents have witnessed firsthand the impact of the program on their children’s confidence and curiosity.
“Seeing my daughter build her own robot and explain how it works was incredible. Thank you for this wonderful initiative.,” shared one parent.
“Access to programs like this is life-changing for families like ours. The fact that it was free and high-quality made all the difference,” said another parent.
The success of the July – December 2025 cohort was made possible through the generous support of CIBC Foundation, The Rotary Club of Toronto and its Charitable Foundation, and iA Financial Group. Afro Canadian Development Inc. extends its deepest gratitude to these partners for their commitment to youth empowerment, educational equity, and community development.
Family interest in the program continues to grow, reflecting the urgent need for accessible, high-quality STEM learning opportunities. Afro Canadian Development Inc. looks forward to future collaborations and increased support to expand and scale the program, reaching even more children and youth in the years ahead.
