TORONTO, Ont. (September 5, 2022) – It is that time of the year when the future pillars of our nation get ready to learn, grow & experience greater heights at school. While going back to school can be an exciting & fun time for many students, the experience can be just the opposite for children from low-income families. Purchasing back-to-school supplies can be financially stressful for families as they struggle with the surging inflation & post-pandemic effect.

With the aim to support families struggling to afford school supplies for their children, Back To School Aid was organized by Afro Canadian Development on September 05, 2022. Through the event, we were able to equip 100 children & youths with essential school supplies including school bags, pens, pencils, erasers, highlighters, notebooks, glue, geometry box, ruler, sharpener and many more to help them prepare for their successful school year ahead & beyond.

“We want to make sure that every child in the community has the necessary supplies they need to go back to school & have a successful academic year”, said Emmanuel Animodi, the Director of Afro Canadian Development.

Though the act of receiving free school supplies may seem small, the impact is profound for the children & youths as being able to carry new school supplies to class like all the other kids would give them a sense of belonging in the group & ultimately build their self-esteem and confidence.

All in all, the event was a huge success. We are overwhelmed with joy to receive the appreciation & blessings from the parents who attended the event. “The feeling you get by helping others, being able to give them hope & happiness is really the greatest joy you will ever receive”, says Mr. Animodi.

A huge shout out to each and everyone who made this event a huge success. Thank you to our generous donors and volunteers who took time out of their busy schedules to help the community.
